The Canopy at Moody Moon Ridge is an adults only, screen free retreat taking shape in the Tennessee Smoky Mountains.
Six architecturally elevated treehouses across six wooded acres, each with a private sauna, a deck side firepit, and no television in sight. Between Sevierville, Gatlinburg, Knoxville and Asheville, four miles from I 40 and a world away from it.
Low density by design. Six units on six acres, two guests in each, and nothing on the property that asks for your attention.
Each treehouse will stand on stilts among mature trees, positioned so that no unit looks into another. Privacy is the floor plan, not an upgrade.
Every treehouse will have its own sauna and a deck side firepit, so the restorative part of the day never involves booking a slot or sharing a room.
Two guests per treehouse, three nights minimum, adults twenty five and over. The whole property will sleep twelve people, and that is deliberate.
In their place: a record player and a shelf of vinyl, paper maps, a wind up alarm clock, a rotary phone, a Polaroid camera, and a book you chose yourself before you arrived.
Everything you need will already have been thought about, so there is nothing to arrange, nothing to keep up with and nobody to be on for. That is the whole point of the place, not a quirk of it.
Check in will happen quietly, in advance, through a few questions rather than a queue at a counter.
Choose the book waiting on your nightstand. Name your coffee, your tea, how you take your milk. Tell us your allergies, and which pastries should arrive fresh in the morning. Each day will begin with a handwritten note about the weather, so the rhythm of the stay comes from the sky rather than a notification.
Ask for the book at least ten days ahead and it will be there when you open the door.
A suspension bridge will run from the treehouse deck out to your own sauna, far enough that getting there is already part of it.
Beyond the units, the site plan includes an open air pool, an organic garden, walking trails through the trees, and a small clubhouse for a quiet stretch or a reset. Six acres inside the wider, privately held land of Moody Moon Ridge.
Planned for every unit, not offered as an upgrade on some of them.
A double height wall of glass facing the forest and the ridgeline beyond, so the view does the work that a television usually does.
Screened on the deck, open to the trees and the weather. Warm water, cold air, and nobody within sight of it.
A freestanding tub set at a picture window, positioned for the end of the afternoon when the light comes in sideways through the trees.
Planned to be chosen before arrival and waiting when you get there. A portion of the proceeds will support literacy programmes for children in rural Tennessee.
A private spa ritual in your own treehouse: a handwritten card, eucalyptus and cypress aromatherapy, a linen bag of bath luxuries, with an optional in treehouse massage and a mountain mint and honey tea service after.
A linen lined wicker basket for the deck or a clearing nearby: an artisan charcuterie board with local cured meats, aged cheeses, fig jam, olives, candied nuts and a fresh baguette.
A fireside tasting of three bourbons poured into crystal Glencairn glasses, with a luxury s'mores kit and charcuterie, made for the hand forged firepit.
A handcrafted wooden box holding a watercolour palette, natural bristle brushes, a cold press pad and an embroidered linen apron, with an easel set up on your deck.
A single origin chocolate truffle collection with aged cheeses and local honey, an Alpine fondue made from scratch, a French charcuterie selection, and a snack pack in an embroidered organic linen bag.
Add ons will be selected during pre arrival rather than ordered on site, so nothing about the stay requires a phone, a menu or a conversation at a desk.
The Canopy will sit on a paved county road about four miles from Interstate 40, which is the whole trick of the location: genuinely secluded, but not a two hour mountain drive at the end of a long day.
Roughly 35 minutes from Sevierville, 45 minutes from Gatlinburg, an hour from Knoxville and about an hour and a half from Asheville.
“The experience of being cared for, so you can set the weight of everyday life aside.”The Canopy’s brand promise
The Canopy is being built for couples, for people who walk and swim and sit in saunas, and for anyone who wants three quiet days without a screen in them.
It will be adults only, twenty five and over, with two guests per treehouse and a three night minimum. No children, and service animals only. Twelve people on the whole property at any one time.
That is a short list on purpose. Saying who a place is not for is the only honest way to say who it is for.
Construction permits are secured and the plans are finished. What happens next is the building, and then a first season with six treehouses in it.
Joining the founding list now is how you get first choice of that season, and 50% off the room rate when you take it.
